Nudity in Fashion: for better or for worse?

The concept of nudity in fashion varies at different levels. For some, it is only to the extent of wearing sleeveless dresses or adorning Capri pants. For some it is about backless dresses orknee length skirts. But then, for some it is about low neck blouses and exposed cleavages. The key however, remains the same. It is all about the level of comfort that a person has with whatever she is wearing; because nudity is not a matter of morality or immorality. It is more of a choice, the choice of living a lifestyle.
For most people, nudity in fashion has more to do with exposed cleavages. Some simple reasons that people tend to overlook while judging a girl on her attire are that probably, just probably, that some women like their bodies and like to show off, just like some men who work out and wear tight T-shirts to show off their muscles. Either that or it’s a way to attract men. Just like how men try to attract females for mating. Basic animal instinct. Women today like to take control of whom they want to sleep with. If you’re a woman and consider such behavior inappropriate then you’re the first one who’s denying yourself the level of gender equality society has to offer.

It really is demeaning to judge a person by what kind of top she is wearing; whether it be halter neck, strapless, backless whatnot. For some people it can be a sign of sheer desperation but then what can beat the elegance of a beautiful evening gown with a plunging neckline? Showing off cleavage is anything but immoral because it could just be a part of the culture, just as in Africa where there are tribes with women who barely cover their breasts. I don’t think they are being immoral by doing that, its just the way things are.

In all honestly, who knows why a woman wears low cut tops. Maybe she wants attention, maybe she wants to show-off her implants or maybe she was slaving away at the gym for the past winter and wants to flaunt herself or maybe she feels good about herself when she goes home and doesn’t really care what others think or maybe she does really hate herself or maybe …. *insert thousand other ‘maybes’ here*

As long as she’s being true to her ‘real’ inner self, then so be it.

Summer 2011 Bikini Collection from La Senza

Let me introduce a very sexy, exciting new campaign for La Senza Summer 2011 proving that nudity isn’t sexy anymore. Well it’s nothing to discuss comparing elderly people strutting their stuff on the beach in comparison to young models in vibrant and statement-making bikinis.

Top 11 Bikini Trends for Summer 2011

It may feel like winter, but bikini season is right around the corner. Bikini.com Co-Founder and CEO Gail Sonnenschein reveals a countdown of the top 11 swimwear trends for this spring and summer!

1. The Bottom Line: What's the top trend, according to Bikini.com? Detailing on the derriere. Whether you're built like Kim Kardashian or just want to look that way, strategic ruching and subtle stitch details can add oomph to what you already have and flatter and enhance what you don't.

2. Retro Glam: From debutantes of the '50s, to Mad Men of the '60s, and Studio 54 disco divas of the '70s, today's ultra-glamorous women are looking to the past for inspiration. High-waisted, two-piece swimsuits figure prominently in this elegant vintage trend.

3. World Safari: Break out your passport; the tribe has spoken. Designers featured all kinds of hot ethnic looks with Native American, Moroccan, Aboriginal Australian, and especially African inspiration. It's exotic sex appeal for citizens of the world with a fun sense of adventure.

4. Sparkle: This season, give 'em the old razzle dazzle with studs, beads, sequins, rhinestones, and any other kinds of embellishment that add splash to a swimsuit. Whether you're a Jersey Shore fan or a Las Vegas showgirl, there's a sparkly, showstopping look for you.

5. The Gold Standard: Glamorous metallics in glossy high-tech fabrics are a luxurious trend worth mining. This season's swimsuits are dripping in gold, bronze, and copper, giving every beachgoer the Midas Touch.

6. Boudoir Chic: Break out the satin sheets: From bras to bustiers, racy-lacy swimsuits in everything from soft pastels to black lace are taking lingerie from the bedroom to the beach.

7. Software with Hardware: Swimsuits are held together this season with prominent metal buckles, buttons and rings that add a luxe, jewelry-like accent to sleek designs.

8. Shiny Happy Prints: Playful paisleys, groovy geometrics, and fun flowers and fruits in eye-catching, vibrant bursts of color provide an antidote to minimalist and monochromatic looks. These bold, bright patterns give everyone the opportunity to break out and have fun with their swimwear.

9. Wild Thing: Animal prints manage to be both a trend and a timeless classic. Leopard, tiger, crocodile, python, and even peacock can bring out the sexy wild thing in you.

10. Americana: From crisp and chic nautical stripes to preppy madras, collegiate looks, and sweet summer gingham, this season's swimsuits are as hot as apple pie.

11. Peekaboo: Naughty meets nice with monokini cutaways and strategically placed cutouts that emphasize the feminine form and show off a body to its best advantage. Keyholes, bondage strips, and see-through bands of fabric give a "peekaboo" effect that will definitely set you apart from the crowd.

Holiday Style

Holiday planning provides a pre-taste of relaxed times. If it's on a mountain, during the exploration of a city, or somewhere else where new experiences can be made, holidays are the time to break with the usual. Insofar, holidays can happen everywhere and anytime.

But it's easier for example under a warm sun on the beach. Fashionoffice has collected some pieces for the holiday style 2011.

Fashion That Survives More Than One Season

Fashionoffice has collected some pieces that are following the sustainable design concept of staying in fashion longer than one season - until the clothing falls from the body like a second skin.

fig.:

Tank-top-dress made of organic cotton in the powdry color sand, cork-wedges with naturally tanned black leather, and shopper in sheepskin from the 'Organic Fashion'-collection by Grüne Erde, SS2011.

The first 'Organic Fashion'-collection by the Austrian home interior label Grüne Erde was launched last year. For SS2011, Grüne Erde (means 'Green Earth', founded 28 years ago) provides pieces made of sustainable materials like organic cotton or linen from European environmental-friendly agricultures, and produced by manufacturers that are following the idea of 'fair-production'. Even the design concept bases on the sustainable idea; the items can be used for different situations such as sportive activities, for a relaxed city style or as part of business outfits - the outfit gets its look through the combination of the single pieces. Additionally, the designers of Grüne Erde have focused on basics which stay in fashion for more than one season.

Animal Prints

It seems as animal prints never go out of fashion! But this year, the mixes are wilder, appear more colorful and designers interpret original animal prints with art techniques like aquarelle.

Alpine Style On A Bikini?

Alongside to colorful zig-zag, psychedelic-geometrical and flower power 60s/70s inspired pieces, Skiny presents one model that evokes an elegant 'Alpine Style'-impression - it's the right one on the image of this page. The shiny moss green bandeau bikini with white detail on the upper side and metallic detail in the middle remembers the traditional female dress 'dirndl' of the European Alps.

Images Of Provocative Women

The 'Onawa' bikini is made of a suede alike material; the fringes on the brief are applied for the sexy swing.

'Stacey' is the one in the middle. The bikini is made of red/white Gingham pattern. The bra of the cowgirl bikini is decorated with the head of a bull. The hipster is designed like traditional denim hotpants.

Swimwear design which follows the idea of 'pureness'

In April 2011, the Italian lingerie label Porzia T, founded in 2008 by fashion designer Paola Tessariol, presented pieces from the 'Collezione Belmonte' (lounge-, swimwear, accessories) made of silky fabrics and decorated with pearls and Swarovski crystals.

fig.: Diana sail bra with Cassandra brief, Eco turban and Mopsa bag from the Collezione Belmonte; all pieces are in white. The bra, brief and turban are decorated with pearls; on the bag, Swarovski crystals are forming a lily which is the logo of Porzia T. The lily stands in heraldry for pureness.

Paola Tessariol named her label after the character Porzia, who represents in 'The Merchant of Venice' by William Shakespeare a beautiful, noble, and passionate woman. The 'Collezione Belmonte' refers to the place where Shakespeare's Porzia lives.

About Shakespeare's Porzia: In 'The Merchant of Venice', Porzia appears dressed up as a male lawyer in front of the court, where (s)he delivers arguments by following the frame work of the law - regardless if the arguments are unjust - to save a man's life from another man who has shown no will to be merciful, but insisted on a legal and cruel judgement.

The video shows the 'Collezione Privata' (lingerie) which is made for 'private eyes'. It is the third and most erotic line alongside to 'Collezione Belmonte' and 'Private Beachwear' (both lounge- and swimwear)porziat.it.

BEACH STYLE

Female writers and their fashionable expressions

Writers and fashion! Some pieces on this page are designed by female writers. The swimwear and sandal wedges are the creations by a fashion editor of 'Elle' magazine, and the bag with the Mae West quote about the self-image of a woman and how it is constructed out of her relationship to men, is designed by a female who has released her knowledge about the 'Ex' even as a book.

Fashionoffice collected some additional pieces for a beachwear style like a shark teethes ring, sunglasses in coral form, and a sun protective stick from a line that was founded by a female pioneer of the beauty business in 1930.
